On Sunday, 7 March 2021, at approximately 16h30, a fire was reported at the SGB-SMIT POWER MATLA Pretoria West plant.  The plant was evacuated, the emergency services were contacted, and the fire was extinguished.

We are relieved to report that there were no injuries recorded.

The investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the accident.  The factory is currently on lockout whilst the relevant authorities are busy with their investigation.

Please be advised that we have already embarked on a disaster recovery plan to ensure business continuity.

The Cape Town distribution transformer plant is unaffected and continues as normal.

We will engage with various stakeholders on the direct impact.
